Background

Cardboard Box Company are part of the Logson Group, the UK’s largest independent supplier of corrugated packaging. With the group collectively employing over 1000 people with a turnover in excess of £200m.

Cardboard box have increased the capacity of their site in Accrington, Lancashire, extending their existing manufacturing facility. The new extension will form a dedicated storage and distribution warehouse, ancillary to the existing manufacturing facility. And will require the existing conveyor line to be extended to the new unit. This in hand improving the efficiency and reducing warehouse costs as the forklift traffic has been reduced decreasing the time taken to load the outbound truck wagons.

Blackstar Solution

Blackstar specialise in the manufacturing & supplying of conveyor systems, and were approached by Cardboard Box Company to assist with this site extension that involved amendments to the existing line, & a new extension to the outfeed going into the new distribution and storage unit.

The amendments to the existing line required Blackstar to re-locate 4 conveyors, the turntable & stretch wrapper. The other existing 13 gravity conveyors in place were replaced with 14 new line shaft conveyors manufactured & supplied by Blackstar extending towards the new fire door.

Another 15 line shaft conveyor pockets were manufactured & supplied for the new extension after the fire door. This line feeds to the Storage and Dist unit with the final unloading conveyor including a Forklift Barrier for protection during the unloading process.

Conclusion

Blackstar completed the supply, mechanical and electrical installation of the whole system on time and to coincide with the start-up at Accrington.
